Many years ago, decided over a McDonalds coffee, a muffin and a whole lot of frustration, three people decided together to establish Wodonga Dog Rescue. We formed a committee of seven, and have never looked back. Our original committee is no longer standing exactly how it was; however each of those original members will never be forgotten for their dedication and contribution to Wodonga Dog Rescue.
As time went by, more people came along to assist us in our cause, and WDR is made up of such an amazing dedicated team now, but from the very start, this has never been about us or people, or what we want, it has always been about ‘Doin’ it for the Dogs’.
Somebody in the community had noticed what we had been doing, not just rescuing & re-homing dogs and cats, but working tirelessly to rehabilitate & operate on the animals that need help, but to also work with the community with education, assistance, and the Paw pals program.
As a result, we were nominated for the ‘Community Organisation of the Year’, which in itself is a massive achievement. Wodonga Dog Rescue was honoured with the 2014 Community Organisation of the Year at the Wodonga Australia Day ceremony. This is a massive achievement, and an incredible award to win for a group of dedicated volunteers that have never set out to win awards or accolades, but simply set out to be ‘Doin’ it for the Dogs – and well, of course the cats too!’.
This award does not belong to any one person, yet it belongs to every single person who is involved with Wodonga Dog Rescue, an incredible group of people – Congrats!

Stevie & Jimmy were saved from a local pound, they were not in a good way, and in fact Jimmy had to spend 6 months more in care than Stevie did, just to get his medical conditions under control so that he could be adopted out as a happy healthy pet.
Jenny adopted Steve, and more than half a year later Wendy adopted Jimmy. The fact that these two once neglected boys now had loving owners is everything that we strive and work for.
Jenny and Wendy did not know each other at all, and although they live four hours away from Wodonga, they actually live very close to each other. Stevie & Jimmy, were not only brothers, but best of friends, and with permission, we put Wendy & Jenny in contact with each other. We had no idea that Wodonga Dog Rescue would change the lives of these ladies so much.
Not only do they both now have a fur-child of their own, that they both love and care for, they now have their own special friendship, are very close, and now even work together.
Thank you very much to Jenny, Stevie, Wendy & Jimmy for making the massive trip up to Wodonga to help us celebrate, and share in the moment – the life changing stories of Stevie & Jimmy make everything worth while!
